Hello @everyone ! I’m excited to announce the opening of the Unity 2018 VRChat Open Beta! There are a few things to go over first, so please check out the information below regarding this beta.

A future blog post will get into specifics on why we’re updating to Unity 2018. To keep it short for now, there are a lot of improvements that will benefit VRChat creators! The update also helps with the development of VRChat itself. Many systems have potential to see improvements with the changes provided by Unity 2018.

First of all, this is an early beta build. The purpose of this build is to give everyone a head start on uploading and testing content uploaded with Unity 2018. We’re aware of issues with pre-existing content and you’re likely to run into a lot of them, including issues with shaders and general crashes. We’re still working to improve support for Unity 2017 content (and 5.6!), and you’ll likely see that improve as we push updates to this beta over time.

We currently plan on keeping this open beta running for about a month, ending with the full release of the Unity 2018 upgrade. As mentioned above, we’ll be actively working on the update during that time.

While we’re already aware of many bugs, we’d still like to document as much as we can on a dedicated Canny board to make sure we catch as much as possible. As far as the SDK goes, we will be providing an updated SDK at a later time. For now, please use the most recent SDK available here to update your content: https://vrchat.com/home/download
